On Memorial Day, May 28, 2007, the IHS dedicated an authentically constructed replication of the historic brick firehouse structure that served the community from 1901 to 1986. The building of this structure was occasioned two years earlier when a trio of historic Iola firefighting apparatus, dating from 1913, 1926 and 1942, came into possession of the organization; a horse drawn 1912 Waterous Pumper, a 1924 Ford Model âTâ hose truck and a 1938 Reo based pumper and hose truck combo, outfitted locally by machinist R. I. Anderson. The original structure still stands as a light industry manufacturing plant at 175 East State Street.
